“Writing From Our Depth” Writing Retreat with Bonnie Wolkenstein, Seattle USA
The Florecer Casitas was a perfect home-away-from-home for the Guanajuato Writing Retreat. Liz’s behind-the-scenes assistance to arrange caterers and transportation was an essential component to make things seamless for participants. The landscaping and design touches both inside and out made people feel pampered. The Big House (and it’s gorgeous modern kitchen) was perfect for shared meals, workshops, and a final night’s open mic, which had enough room for us to invite in local artists and writers. Ample WiFi and numerous intimate nooks provided the essentials for individual creative work. Did I mention the massage room? On-site laundry? Filtered water out of the tap? The view at daybreak/sunset/night? All were a big hit with our group! Thank you, Liz, for providing the backdrop for our inspirational week.

Hakomi Group Retreat with Donna Martin & Georgia Marvin, Vancouver B.C.
Georgia Marvin, Senior Trainer, Hakomi Education Network: As an international group of trainers, we were searching for a retreat setting that could match some important criteria: affordability, a location with cultural richness, accessibility for international travelers, seclusion and privacy for psychological and emotional work, and walking access to a town. Guanajuato met those criteria and our hostess, Liz, added the magic. As an artist, she has created a space enriched by her vision and talents and every space in Florecer Casitas is a treat. Liz’s attention to practical details makes planning a group trip easy as she will provide you with private transportation options for airports, grocery shopping and sight seeing, reservations for the best restaurants and recommendations for regional tours.
The Hakomi Dozen were in the casitas in pairs, each room with a kitchen and fridge where we could have our morning coffee and our evening privacy. We ate most of our meals in the main house where we took turns preparing and serving meals and trying to keep order amidst the chaos. The dining table is long and welcoming, the kitchen modern and efficient and the main house living room and adjoining private patio are spacious and perfect for group meetings. Most evenings we would gather on the top patio for cocktails and a delicious sunset. The rhythm of our days included meetings and working sessions, shared meals and conversations and explorations of this historic town. And from this experience has emerged an international team who feels connected and purposeful as returned to our home countries and commit to our common journey.
Liz is an extraordinary person and her retreat space is a reflection of her life experience and travels. I highly recommend Florecer Casitas for a rich and meaningful retreat experience.

Clarity for the new year ahead with Nani Waddoups, LPC, Portland Oregon USA
In November of 2019, I brought a group of eight women from the Northwest and Hawaii to meet at Florecer Casitas in Guanajuato for a weeklong working retreat. There are a myriad of logistical details to organizing such an event: multiple airport pick-ups, grocery shopping, a tour of the city, and much more to meet the needs of eight individual guests. Liz made the process of preparing for the week a breeze by connecting me with drivers, a chef to teach a cooking class, a massage therapist, and other resources to help me plan in advance. Once prepared, I enjoyed nothing more than seeing the delight on the faces of my group members as they crossed the threshold into Liz’s oasis. First the creative plantings are such a lush foil against the straight lines of the modern stucco architecture and detailed patterned stonework. Second, opening up the rooms for each pair of guests solicited just what an event planner would hope for: gasps of delight, as each room was beyond expectation in its specialness: attention to detail, creative color combinations, rich textiles, unexpected and delightful artwork, and every consideration made to the needs and comforts of guests. The four double-occupancy Florecer Casitas are completely self-contained apartments surrounding a much larger central casa where we met for morning yoga classes on the terrace overlooking the city, held our group sessions on couches and chairs in the main living room, did group art projects on the large tables inside and out, shared meals at the dining table that easily seats 10, and had an interactive cooking class in a fully equipped cook’s dream kitchen. We had lunch daily on the rooftop with a 360-degree view of Guanajuato.
Liz was a very gracious and welcoming host, helping where needed while giving us complete privacy. She has created a beautiful and nourishing space that inspires creativity. I hope to come back again soon.

In March 2019, I was one of the leaders of a group of artists who took over the lovely Florecer Casitas for a week long retreat. The compound is located at the top of the Guanajuato bowl so away from some of the hubbub of the city but close enough for a short walk into the city center. The casitas are a secure and private oasis. The facilities are amazing-each casita beautifully appointed with everything to make a stay comfortable. There are several outdoor areas to congregate after a day of creative pursuits. We arrived when the flowers were in bloom- extraordinary! Liz, the owner, was a perfect hostess and facilitated local tours and gave recommendations for some excellent dining options. She help us to coordinate airport pickups, trips to buy groceries, tours, and a myriad of requests - leaving us to just enjoy the immersive experience. We started each day with everyone making their own breakfast and then meeting for our workday. Our group took over the light filled printmaking studio. We worked in two day segments-allowing a break in between to enjoy the city. Guanajuato is a charming city- full of small museums, shops, cafes, and very friendly people. I would highly recommend this facility and look forward to returning on my own, especially when not the leader of a group.
